Sports Team Loses Game, Fans Blame Everything Except the Team
Local sports fans identify every possible cause for their team's loss except poor performance.
After a devastating loss in last night's championship game, fans of the local sports team have identified the real culprits: the referees, the weather, the opposing team's uniforms, the stadium's lighting, and a conspiracy involving the league office.
The Blame Game
"It's obvious what happened," said fan club president Bob Wilson. "The referees were clearly biased, the weather was too cold, the other team's uniforms were too bright and distracting, and the stadium lights were positioned to give them an advantage."
"Some fumbles and a few interceptions had nothing to do with it, the refs were against us the whole game." - - Bob Wilson
When asked about the team's actual performance, which included three missed field goals, two fumbles, and a quarterback who threw four interceptions, Wilson dismissed the question entirely.
Conspiracy Theories
Several fans have developed elaborate conspiracy theories:
- Too many fans posted we'd win today, so we were doomed
- Their commentator hates us, he emitted bad energy all game
- The halftime curse, up at the end of the 2nd quarter is the worst
- Our plays weren't designed for an opponent that unrefined
"The referees were clearly biased, the weather was too cold, and the other team's uniforms were too bright and distracting."
The team's coach, when asked for comment, simply sighed and said, "We lost because we played poorly. Sometimes it's that simple." This statement was immediately dismissed by fans as "coach speak" and "not the real story."
